Jakarta, 23 April, 2024 Celebrating a significant milestone, the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (HSR) commemorated six months of successful operation with a remarkable achievement of transporting 2.56 million passengers, as reported by PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia-China (KCIC), a collaborative effort between Indonesian and Chinese state-owned enterprises responsible for the construction and management of the HSR, as per Xinhua.

Since its inauguration for commercial service in mid-October of the preceding year, the railway has facilitated a total of 7,050 train journeys, covering a distance exceeding 1.26 million kilometers.

Currently, the HSR operates 52 daily train services, a substantial increase from the initial 14, accommodating over 31,000 passengers compared to the previous 8,400 seats. The railway witnessed its peak passenger count at 21,537 in a single day, with a remarkable daily seat occupancy rate of 99.6 percent.

Leveraging China’s expertise in high-speed rail systems, the KCIC has diligently managed operations and maintenance, ensuring operational efficiency and passenger safety even amidst challenging weather conditions like heavy rainfall and typhoons.

Furthermore, to enhance passenger experience, the introduction of a dynamic fare policy, optimization of operation schedules, and upgrades to station facilities have been implemented.

The Jakarta-Bandung HSR, a pioneering initiative in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, previously achieved the milestone of transporting two million passengers in early March, according to official statistics.

Septian Hario Seto, Deputy Minister of Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs, lauded the transformative impact of the HSR on travel between Jakarta and Bandung, transitioning from road-based to rail-based transport.

Seto expressed confidence in the evolving mobility patterns towards a more mass transport-centric approach in the future.

With an impressive design speed of 350 km per hour, the 142.3-km high-speed railway has significantly reduced travel time between Jakarta and Bandung from over three hours to a mere 40 minutes, revolutionizing intercity transportation in Indonesia. – XINHUA
